A 1918 rerelease of the 1915 film (copyright: Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Co.; 8Dec15; LU7164), with the ethnicity of the merchant, played by Sessue Hayakawa, changed from Japanese to Burmese.
A venal, spoiled stockbroker's wife impulsively embezzles $10,000 from the charity she chairs and desperately turns to an ivory trader to replace the stolen money. Her husband gives her the amount she borrowed, but the trader won't take it back, branding her shoulder with the sign of his ownership. She shoots him. Her husband takes the blame, and faces trial for attempted murder.
